The research focus of the Bornscheuer group is in biotechnology with emphasis on the development of biocatalysts for various applications (chemicals, pharmaceutical, flavors, fragrances, nutrition, plastic degradation, degradation of algal polysaccharides. The central theme is discovery and engineering of enzyme using rational and evolutive design strategies including the use of bioinformatic tools and high-throughput screening methods.
